Description

CORHIO CEO Morgan Honea will be on the panel "Regulatory and Policy Considerations with Data-Driven Health Care Innovations"

Health care is undergoing a transformation. New modes of data acquisition, transmission, and use—combined with novel technology—has enabled health care delivery in ways previously unimagined.

However, the expanding use of data-driven health care networks and the technology that supports them creates a range of operational, legal and regulatory, and other challenges. The 21st Century Cures Act, for example, seeks to promote data exchange and the development of a national health information network that both limits and promotes technological innovation. Telehealth delivery models also rely on interoperable data—but raise questions about standard of care and reimbursement. The Food and Drug Administration must similarly regulate new networked medical devices, which receive and transmit data, but which may also be hacked by wrongdoers. And outside the traditional health care delivery space, consumers are increasingly relying on wearable technologies and applications that are subject to even less regulation.

Academics, policymakers, entrepreneurs, health system executives, and others will come together for a stimulating set of conversations to discuss the questions that the new world of data-driven networked health care creates, including opportunities for innovation and application to address health care needs in Colorado and elsewhere.
