At the 2015 HIMSS Annual Conference, Morgan Honea, Chief Executive Officer at CORHIO, is co-presenting with Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Dominicci, Chief Information Officer and Director of Health IT at the Colorado Springs Military Health System, on the topic of Using HIE to Improve Care for Military Personnel.
This session will demonstrate how the Colorado Springs Military Health System within the Department of Defense was able to overcome both policy and technology barriers to improve care coordination for more than 172,000 beneficiaries by partherning with a regional health information exchange (HIE) organization.

- Define the types of technological solutions that need to be developed to improve care coordination when active duty military patients receive care from both within the Department of Defense’s healthcare system and from civilian healthcare professionals and facilities.
- Describe the clinical and financial improvements that the Colorado Springs Military Health System has documented since becoming a participant in a regional, public health information exchange (HIE) network.
- Summarize the ways in which civilian healthcare providers, and the IT teams that support civilian healthcare organizations, can work with Department of Defense to improve care coordination for active duty military personnel and their families.
