Lab Results From LabCorp Now Available Through CORHIO

LabCorp’s commitment to patient care demonstrated through connection to CORHIO’s health information exchange.

Lab reports are vital for clinical decision making and are significant components of a patient’s longitudinal health record. Providers need quick access to results to develop treatment plans and better communicate with patients. LabCorp, the fastest growing lab in the U.S., is a progressive company that understands how health information exchange (HIE) supports providers as they coordinate care for patients.

Because of this commitment to enhancing patient care, LabCorp has connected its electronic systems to the CORHIO HIE. Here in Colorado, physician practices, outpatient clinics and long-term care providers can now use their EHR connection to CORHIO to receive or access results from LabCorp. This is in addition to the lab results already being sent into the HIE by Colorado Laboratory Services and 28 hospitals. LabCorp Connection Enhances Efficiency
With this new connection to the CORHIO network, physicians and other care providers can access clinical lab results from LabCorp’s 19 Colorado locations, eliminating the need for multiple logins to different lab information portals. Once connected, office staff can use the CORHIO system to find patient lab reports in seconds, potentially saving hours of time each work day.

Potential to Reduce Costs
Some CORHIO users that have an EHR currently pay for implementation or ongoing maintenance of “point-to-point” interfaces between their EHR and each lab system. The new connection between CORHIO’s HIE and LabCorp could save those facilities the annual costs to have a direct interface to LabCorp, if they are not using the lab ordering functionality. Supports Meaningful Use
Providers wishing to attest for Meaningful Use incentives can choose to focus on lab results as one of their menu set objectives. This objective requires that at least 40% of test results ordered are recorded in the EHR. So in the near future, this connection between LabCorp and CORHIO can help providers using an EHR to incorporate lab test results in the patient record, therefore meeting a Meaningful Use objective.
