Pathology Results From MetroPath to Improve Patient Care, Save Provider Time

Metropolitan Pathologists (MetroPath) is in the process of connecting to the CORHIO health information exchange (HIE), which will make their pathology test results available to any provider participating in the CORHIO network.

Office-based physicians and other care providers will soon be able to access pathology test results from MetroPath via the CORHIO system, improving clinical decision-making, care coordination, and potentially saving significant time. Having these results available through the HIE could also reduce reordering of unnecessary tests because recent results from MetroPath will be available right in the patient’s health record. With all pertinent clinical data in one place, providers can develop more informed treatment plans and better communicate with patients.

“Metropath is glad to participate in the CORHIO health information exchange and make our lab results available to community providers,” says Ron Sconyers, COO of Metropath. “This is an ideal solution to help us align better with those practices who don’t have EMRs or that don’t want another point-to-point interface. If providers can get the data through CORHIO, it’s a win-win for everyone – especially the patients of Colorado.”

MetroPath is the oldest private pathology laboratory in Colorado and specializes in women’s health testing, dermatopathology, and cytopathology.

MetroPath Connection Will Save Busy Providers’ Time

With MetroPath’s upcoming connection to the CORHIO network, physicians and other care providers can potentially eliminate having multiple logins to different lab portals. Once connected, physicians and office staff can use the CORHIO system to find patient lab reports in seconds, potentially saving hours of time each work day.

“As a large multi-specialty practice, we order a wide range of pathology testing,” says David Glow, EMR Product Manager at Boulder Medical Center. “As soon as CORHIO announced that they would be working with MetroPath to deliver their results, we let them know that we would like to receive them as soon as possible. Our providers enjoy the convenience and efficiency that CORHIO provides in delivering clinical data and we’re excited that MetroPath will soon be part of it.  We know that MetroPath is committed to quality and innovation and we’re looking forward to making their services available to our patients.”

CORHIO’s Robust Laboratory Data Network

MetroPath joins seven other laboratories in the state that are either sending results into the health information exchange or that are under agreement to do so – LabCorp, Quest Diagnostics, Colorado Lab Services, Cedar Diagnostics, UniPath, Schryver Medical, and Gastroenterology of the Rockies (in-house pathology lab). In addition, 48 hospitals are sending patient test results into the CORHIO system.
